A casting core assembly includes a metallic core (28) and a ceramic core (26). The process for forming the casting core assembly includes inserting a ceramic plug (140) of a metallic core and ceramic plug core subassembly into a compartment (160) of the ceramic core (26). The ceramic plug (140) is secured to the ceramic core (26), preferably by a ceramic adhesive.
