The present invention relates to a method for milling at least one worm gear, in particular for hobbing at least one worm gear in a manner setting the contact pattern, having at least one mill as milling tool, in particular a hob as milling tool, wherein the milling tool at least temporarily executes an additional helical compensation movement and wherein the additional helical compensation movement is at least partially settable. Furthermore, the invention relates to an apparatus and to the use of the apparatus for carrying out the method.
