The invention relates to a method for the production of glass fibres, comprising the following steps: supplying the starting ingredients including silica, a material that can provide a supply of alumina and at least one flux; melting the starting ingredients at a temperature of between 1300°C and 1500°C; subjecting the molten mixture to fibre forming; and collecting the fibres thus obtained. According to the invention, the above-mentioned material that can provide a supply of alumina consists of coal fly ash. The invention also relates to the mineral fibres that can be obtained by this method.
