An augmented glenoid component for securing to a glenoid surface of a scapula has a body which includes a backing member providing a first surface configured to contact the glenoid surface of the scapula and an opposite second surface, with a buttress formed in the first surface. A bearing insert member can be secured to the second surface of the backing member and provides a bearing surface for articulation with the head of a humerus. The backing member includes a plurality of holes which extend outwardly from the buttress member, each of which is configured to allow passage of a securing member for securing the backing member to the glenoid surface of the scapula.
