A steel with excellent collision energy absorbability and a method for manufacturing the same are provided, wherein the energy absorbability of a collision can be enhanced. A steel with excellent collision energy absorbability, characterized in that the steel composition satisfies Ceq ‰¤ 0.36%, the structure includes a ferritic phase and a hard phase, the volume fraction of the above-described ferritic phase is 75% or more in the whole plate thickness, the hardness thereof is Hv 140 or more and 160 or less, and the average grain size thereof is 2 µm or more.
