The invention relates to a motor vehicle drive train device comprising a multi-group transmission (10) having a main group (11) for providing at least one forward transmission gear and at least one reverse transmission gear, and a downstream group (12) downstream of the main group (11), and a control and/or regulation unit (13) having a gear change function intended for shifting the main group (11) at least in one transmission gear change operation (14) in order to engage a transmission gear contrary to the current direction of travel. The invention proposes that the control and/or regulation unit (13) has a synchronisation function intended for switching the downstream group (12) in order to engage the transmission gear contrary to the current direction of travel.
