The present invention relates to a polypeptide which encodes a mutated mannanase, the sequence of which is derived from a native mannanase of the coprophilic ascomycete filamentous fungus
Podospora anserina , and which is characterized by a catalytic efficiency that is increased by at least 25%. The invention also provides a polynucleotide which encodes a polypeptide of the invention, a vector comprising a polynucleotide of the invention, a host cell comprising a vector or a polynucleotide of the invention, and a composition comprising a polypeptide, a polynucleotide, a vector or a host cell of the invention. Finally, the present invention covers the use of a polypeptide, a polynucleotide, a vector, a host cell or a composition of the invention for the degradation of compounds comprising mannans, in particular lignocellulosic biomass, and also the various envisageable uses of a polypeptide, a polynucleotide, a vector, a host cell or a composition of the invention.
