An apparatus for displaying thumbnails and a corresponding method. The apparatus comprises a display unit, a key input unit and a control unit. The display unit is adapted to display two or more thumbnails and an indicator indicating any one of the thumbnails. The key input unit is adapted to output a control signal for shifting the indicator if a request to shift the indicator is input from a user. The control unit is adapted to: automatically play a moving image corresponding to a thumbnail on which the indicator is positioned; detect a position of the shifted indicator in accordance with the control signal; interrupt a playback of the moving image corresponding to the thumbnail on which the indicator is positioned and automatically display a progress bar representing a whole length of the moving image and a length of a played portion of the moving image when the indicator is shifted; and automatically play a moving image corresponding to a thumbnail on which the shifted indicator is positioned.
