The invention relates to a method for machining a surface (12) of a workpiece (16, 16`) and/or to a method for preparing a surface (12) of a workpiece (16) for the coating process, wherein a structure (15), in particular a macroscopic structure, for example a ridge and/or strip structure, is introduced into the surface (12) of the workpiece (16) using a tool. The surface (12) of the workpiece (16) is supplied with a fluid, in particular with a liquid, after the structure (15) has been introduced in order to produce structures (54). The invention further relates to a method for finishing the surface (12) of the workpiece (16), the surface (12) of the workpiece (16) being coated after the surface (12) has been prepared using such a method. The invention further relates to a system for preparing a surface (12) of a workpiece (16) for the coating process and for finishing the surface (12) of a workpiece (16).
