The invention relates to a rivet element (10) to be fastened to a component (51), in particular to a fiber composite component. Said rivet element has a flange portion (21), which, when fastened, rests against the component, and a rivet portion (11). The rivet portion comprises a tip (12a), converging away from the flange portion, a flared end portion (12b) being provided at the end of the tip which is remote from the flange portion.
