The present invention relates to a buffer system for dough products, comprising a first conveyor, for delivering dough products; a second conveyor, for carrying off dough products; a third conveyor, for receiving the dough products from the first conveyor and delivering the dough products to the second conveyor, the third conveyor, provided with flights or cams for picking up and supporting for individual products, and having a path with an adjustable length between the first and the second conveyor wherein the length of the path is adjustable by lifting or lowering at least one location along the path. The invention further relates to a method for operating such system.
