A problem of the present invention is to provide a perfluoro(poly)ether group-containing bifunctional compound extremely useful as a raw material compound or an intermediate in synthesis of perfluoro(poly)ether group-containing compounds having various structures.
The perfluoro(poly)ether group-containing bifunctional compound of the present invention is represented by general formula (1)

[in formula (1), a group Rf is a perfluoro(poly)ether group represented by
where each of a, b, c, and d independently denotes an integer of 0 or more to 200 or less, the sum of a, b, c, and d is at least 1, and each of repeating units enclosed in parentheses with a, b, c, or d added thereto is present in arbitrary order in the formula, provided that the sum of a and b is 1 or more;
A denotes an R 1 O-CO-W- group, where R 1 is an alkyl group and W is a bonding hand or a bivalent organic group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
Z denotes a -X-Y group, where X is a bonding hand or a bivalent organic group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and Y is a carboxylic acid group or salt thereof].
