A particular implementation for contrast enhancement for a group of images in a database uses locally linear embedding on the luma histograms of the images to capture the structure of the database through local linear relationships between images. Target histograms are determined based on the result of the locally linear embedding process. The columns of the target histogram matrices are used for each image within the database to enhance the contrast of the image.
