A method, system and device for generating a more natural image where the method is characterized by comprising the following steps performed in an apparatus for processing an image: receiving a normalized image; computing luminance channel, computing histogram of said luminance, computing a cumulative histogram of said histogram, estimating a first parameter (Mid_X) related to the average of said cumulative histogram, a second slope parameter (Gamma_L) for small values of said cumulative histogram and a third slope parameter (Gamma_H) for large values of said cumulative histogram and estimating a gamma correction function (Gamma) from said cumulative histogram wherein said gamma correction function is a function of (Mid_X), (Gamma_L) and (Gamma_H); and finally applying said gamma correction function (Gamma) to every image channel (R, G or B) and obtaining a output image (I out ) and computing a contrast normalization process to said output image (I out ) and obtaining and final image (I final );
