An absorbent sanitary paper product having a machine direction, a cross-machine direction orthogonal and co-planar thereto, and a Z-direction orthogonal to both the machine- and cross-machine- directions is disclosed. The absorbent sanitary paper product has a first network of fibers having a second network of fibers attached to a surface thereof with a bonding layer. The bonding layer is disposed upon the surface in a pattern. Only individual fibers comprising the second network of fibers in contacting engagement with the bonding layer form the second network of fibers.
