The invention relates to a mechanical transmission (4) for a motor vehicle comprising: a gearbox (6) with a casing (12) and at least two transmission shafts (20, 22); at least one hydraulic machine (8, 10) of the pump or hydraulic motor type, mounted on the casing (12) and with a shaft (20, 22) coupled to one of the transmission shafts of the gearbox (6); at least one quarter, preferably at least one third, of the axial extent of the or of at least one of the hydraulic machines (8, 10) is housed in a cavity (32, 34) of the casing (12) of the gearbox (6). The invention also relates to a hybrid vehicle comprising such a mechanical transmission (4).
