An exhaust device (100), in particular for laboratory areas, comprising: a housing with side walls and a cover wall (170) enclosing a working chamber (180), wherein at least one of the side walls comprises a moveable window slide (150); a controllable suction device (120; 120') to guide air from the working chamber (180) via at least one exhaust air connection (123; 123') of an exhaust air system, wherein the suction device (120; 120') comprises at least two air inlet openings (124, 125, 126; 124', 125', 126') which are separated from one another and the volume flows of which can be adjusted and controlled independently from one another, wherein the volume flows of the air inlet openings (124, 125, 126; 124', 125', 126') and the proportional ratio of the volume flows to one another are controlled in accordance with operating parameters which are detected by means of sensors, wherein the exhaust air volume flow and the air distribution in the working chamber (180) are controllable via the air inlet openings (124, 125, 126; 124', 125', 126').
