The invention relates to a process for producing diolefins from a dilute diol feedstock, i.e. a feedstock containing from 1% to 30% by weight of diol, comprising at least the following steps: a) an acetalization step, comprising a reaction-separation section fed with said dilute diol feedstock and with a carbonyl feedstock comprising at least the carbonyl effluent resulting from esterification step b), and also comprising at least one separation section so as to produce at least one water effluent and one acetal effluent, b) an esterification step comprising a reaction-separation section fed with the acetal effluent resulting from step a) and comprising at least one separation section treating, by distillation, the effluents of said reaction-separation section and producing at least one water effluent, one carbonyl effluent, one concentrated carboxylic acid effluent and one diol diester residue, said reaction-separation section also being fed with a carboxylic acid feedstock comprising at least said concentrated carboxylic acid effluent, c) a step of pyrolysis of said diol diester residue resulting from step b) comprising a pyrolysis reactor fed with said diol diester residue, said step c) also comprising at least one separation section so as to produce a diolefin effluent.
