The invention relates to a method for producing an upholstery spring, in particular for upholstered furniture or mattresses, comprising an application of a heat-sensitive color indicator onto a spring steel wire, at least in some areas, during or after the bending of the spring steel wire, a heating of the spring steel wire to at least the changeover temperature of the color indicator, and a completion of the upholstery spring. The invention further relates to an upholstery spring, a mattress or a piece of upholstered furniture having such an upholstery spring.
