A quadrupole rod assembly (500) includes a plurality of electrically conductive rods (104), electrically insulating rings (354, 356) coaxially surrounding the rods (104), and clamping systems (472, 474). The rods (104) are arranged about a longitudinal axis (L). The rods (104) and rings (354, 356) have respective surfaces oriented in a transverse plane orthogonal to the longitudinal axis (L), which surfaces interface with respective surfaces of the clamping systems (472, 474) that are also oriented in the transverse plane.
