A method (200) of generating a location assertion, the method comprising:
obtaining (210) a web page comprising a location reporting application (205) from a web assertion service and activating the web page ;
requesting (235), by the location reporting application (205), a current location using a trusted on-device location service (240);
requesting (245), by the location reporting application (205), a current time from a trusted time service (250);
generating (255), by the location reporting application, a location assertion, wherein the location assertion comprises information related to the current location and the current time;
digitally signing (255), by the location reporting application (205), the location assertion using a cryptographic digital signature protocol; and
providing (270), by the location reporting application, the location assertion (260) and a cryptographic credential.
