The present technology relates to a receiving device, a transmitting device, and a data processing method that can flexibly control operation of an application associated with content.
Effective period information indicating a period in which an application associated with content can specify one of a first mode for controlling operation of the application according to the period and a second mode for controlling the operation of the application according to intention of an end user and, in a case where the second mode is specified as the effective period information, the operation of the application is controlled in response to an operation by the end user. The present technology can be applied to a television receiver or the like, which can receive terrestrial broadcast, for example.
