A notification appliance (10) is disclosed that includes a light engine (14) for generating light flashes at a predetermined interval, an energy store (24) for supplying energy to the light engine (14) to generate the light flashes at the predetermined intervals and a charge controller (26) for charging the energy store (24) to a full charge level required to generate the light flashes. The charge controller (26) controlling an input current (32) to charge the energy store (24) to reach the full charge level at the predetermined interval.
