An apparatus for transmitting a media content in a multimedia system, the apparatus comprising: a transceiver; and a controller coupled to the transceiver, wherein the controller is configured to: determine a transmission unit which comprises at least a part of media data related to the media content, wherein the transmission unit is one of a media unit, a media fragment unit (705), MFU, which is a fragment of the media unit, or a fragment of the MFU (705);
generate a data stream comprising data for the transmission unit; and
transmit the generated data stream through a communication network,
wherein if the transmission unit is the MFU (705), the MFU (705) comprises a count value indicating a number of at least one subsequent MFU of which decoding is processed dependently based on the MFU (705), and information indicating a priority of the MFU (705) relative to another MFU within the media unit, and wherein the count value and the information indicating the priority are included in a header of the MFU (705).
