An auxiliary power source (12) is configured to black start a power plant (11). The auxiliary power source (12) includes a first power source (66) having an auxiliary generator (82) driven by an auxiliary drive (84). The auxiliary power source (12) also includes a second power source (64) having energy storage (67). The auxiliary power source (12) is configured to supply power from the first and second power sources (66, 64) to support the black start of the power plant (11).
