The absorbent pad (100) comprises: a liquid impermeable barrier layer (106); a functional layer (101) attached to the barrier layer (106), the functional layer (101) comprising a liquid absorbent component (104); a liquid impermeable peripheral sealing element (110) bonded to peripheries (105,107) of the functional layer (101) and barrier layer (106); and a peripheral attaching element (112) having a first portion (112a) and a second portion (112b), the first portion (112a) bonded to the peripheral sealing element (110). The second portion (112b) of the peripheral attaching element (112) is detached from the peripheral sealing element (110) and is arranged to be attached to a fabric body (200) of the garment (400), thereby attaching the absorbent pad (100) to the garment (400).
