There is provided an acoustic black hole comprising: a first region of taper in a first tapering direction along a line of maximal tapering of the first region, the first tapering direction parallel to an axis of the acoustic black hole; and a second region of taper in a second tapering direction along a line of maximal tapering of the second region, the second tapering direction different to the first tapering direction.
