Provided is an organic compound which contributes to substantial improvements in the luminous efficiency and viewing angle of an organic electroluminescent device. An organic electroluminescent device according to the present invention comprises: a first electrode; a second electrode; an organic layer disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode; and a capping layer, wherein the organic layer or the capping layer comprises an organic compound represented by chemical formula 1 according to the present invention.
