A method for indicating a tracking area of a terminal device (120) and a network device (110, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000). The method comprises: a first network device receiving, from a second network device, a tracking area identifier (TAI) of a first tracking area of a terminal device (120) (S310); and sending to the terminal device (120) an indication that the terminal device (120) is located in the first tracking area (S320). The method can cause the terminal device (120) to clearly know a tracking area where it is located, thereby ensuring a normal communication process.
