The method includes: A first network device obtains BGP route information, where the BGP route information includes a target route prefix; the first network device obtains, based on the target route prefix, a region identifier of a region to which the target route prefix actually belongs; and the first network device verifies the BGP route information based on the target route prefix and the region identifier of the region to which the target route prefix actually belongs. In embodiments of this application, the BGP route information is verified by using the region identifier of the region to which the route prefix actually belongs, to improve network security and accuracy of route source verification.
