A hot melt adhesive composition comprises a plasticizer having at least one ester linkage and a (co)polyester resin component either: (1) having an essentially amorphous domain and a crystalline domain or (2) comprising a blend of at least one essentially amorphous (co)polyester resin and at least one semicrystalline or crystalline (co)polyester resin, and preferably is compostable. The composition has a Tg of less than about 10°C, a DSC melt temperature of between about 20°C and about 80°C, an intrinsic viscosity of between about 0.3 dl/g and about 0.8 dl/g, and a melt viscosity of between about 2,000 and about 50,000 cP at 300°F. The composition may be applied, including by being sprayed, at typical application temperatures in the hygiene field and is suitable for use as a construction adhesive with non-woven substrates for disposable hygiene products, such as baby diapers or adult incontinence products.
