A method for operating a power converter, a control circuit for operating a power converter, and an executable program code are disclosed. The method includes selecting from operating a power converter arrangement in a single-phase mode or a three-phase mode. The power converter arrangement includes a power converter (11) having three input nodes (a, b, c) each configured to receive a respective input voltage (Va, Vb, Vc), and an output (x, z), and a buffer circuit (12) connected to the output (x, z) of the power converter (11). Operating the power converter arrangement in the single phase mode includes receiving the same input voltage (Vabc) at each of the three input nodes (a, b, c) of the power converter (11), and operating the buffer circuit to regulate at least one output voltage of the buffer circuit (12) Operating the power converter arrangement in the three-phase mode includes operating the buffer circuit (12) to regulate at least one output voltage (Vxz; Vx, Vz) at the output (x, z) of the power converter (11) such that the power converter (11) is enabled to operate in a reduced switching mode, and operating the power converter (11) in the reduced switching mode.
