Power control system (1), comprising a power controller (318) and a processor (324) for a medical imaging system (2), the medical imaging system (2) comprising a plurality of subunits (3) for acquiring and/or processing medical image data, a power supply unit (106) connected to the power control system (1), power distribution means (312) for providing electrical power from the power supply unit (106) to the subunits and data transmission means (322) between the power control system (1) and the subunits (3), wherein the power control system (1) is configured to receive information about the status and/or power consumption of a subunit (3), the power control system (1) is configured to adjust the power status and/or power consumption of a subunit (3) and the power control system (1) is configured to adjust and/or predict the status and/or power consumption of a subunit (3) with a self-optimizing and/or self-learning optimization algorithm (7) based on a usage history and/or environmental data. In this way, a power control system with improved characteristics is provided.
