The image recording method includes a step of preparing a white ink containing a white pigment and at least one base ink having a hue different from a hue of the white ink, a step of applying the base ink onto a base material to form an underlying layer, and a step of applying the white ink to a surface of the underlying layer using an ink jet recording method to form a white ink layer, in which a surface energy of the underlying layer is greater than a surface tension of the white ink.
