PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an applicator for a suppository which facilitates a release of the suppository and is free from adhesion of the suppository during storage and use. SOLUTION: The applicator (10) for delivering a pharmaceutical product (46) or the like to a body cavity is provided with a barrel member (14) having a distal end (34) with an opening (36). The applicator also includes a plurality of petal parts (38) extending outwardly from the distal end in a generally axial direction. The petal parts cooperate with the opening to form a receptacle for releasably receiving the pharmaceutical product in the distal end of the barrel member. Each of the petal parts has a truncated flexible tip (44) which is sized and shaped to engage with a substantially central portion of the pharmaceutical product such that a large part of the pharmaceutical product extends outwardly beyond the petal parts so as to facilitate the release of the pharmaceutical product from the receptacle. The applicator is further provided with a plunger member (16) for releasing the pharmaceutical product from the receptacle. According to the invention, the applicator can be packaged in a package together with the pharmaceutical product received in the receptacle. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
