Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a position at which the quality of the read image of an original declines.
SOLUTION: When determining that an original is not present, a CPU moves a full rate carriage and a half rate carriage by driving a motor not shown in the figure and executes scanning (step 103). Thus, dust detection data outputted from a comparator circuit are held by a result holding circuit. Then, the CPU determines the presence/absence of line noise on the basis of the dust detection data held in the result holding circuit (step 104). Then, when determining that the line noise is present, the CPU acquires the generation start position and length (number of pixels) of the line noise and stores the generation start position and the length in the result holding circuit (step 105).
