PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet type rotary electric machine with excellent electric characteristics and strength properties.SOLUTION: A permanent magnet type rotary electric machine includes: a stator where an armature winding is applied inside a plurality of slots formed in a stator iron core; and a rotor in which two magnet insertion holes are disposed, per pole, in a rotor iron core in a V-shape when viewed from a circumference of the rotor and a permanent magnet is embedded in the magnet insertion hole with a polarity changing per pole. An end wall of outside diametrical side of magnet insertion hole of the rotor is formed by three circular arcs each having a different curvature. One of three circular arcs is disposed in parallel with an outside diameter of the rotor, and an end wall of inner diametrical side of the magnet insertion hole of the rotor is formed in a circular arc shape.
