PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for asymmetric reduction, the catalyst being easily and safely produced and having strong catalytic activity and excellent stereoselectivity.SOLUTION: A new ruthenium-diamine complex is provided, which has an optical active diamine ligand having a hetero atom in a chain-like moiety that links an aromatic compound (arene) portion with a diamine moiety. The present invention also provides a method for producing the complex, a catalyst for asymmetric reduction comprising the complex, and a method for selectively producing an optically active alcohol and an optically active amine by using the catalyst for asymmetric reduction.
