PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system that can easily adjust not only position of an infrared communication unit but also its direction at the time of infrared communication with narrow directivity.SOLUTION: A portable terminal 201 comprises: magnetic detection units 203-1 and 203-2 for detecting magnetic intensity generated by a communication device 101; and a posture detection unit 204 for detecting the posture of the portable terminal 201. The magnetic detection units 203-1 and 203-2 detect magnetic intensity and inform a user so that the distance from the communication device 101 will be in a range where infrared communication is possible. Furthermore, the mobile terminal 201 informs the user which direction the mobile terminal 201 should be oriented toward through a communication unit 206 so that the directions of optical axes of the infrared communication units of the portable terminal 201 and communication device 101 will correspond with each other from posture information of the terminal detected by the posture detection unit 204.
