Embodiments of the present invention provide an apparatus and method for adaptively selecting a beam based on a service and an environment in a wireless communication system supporting beamforming. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for operating a device capable of communicating with another device in a wireless communication system includes determining a type of service, determining an optimal beam based on the determined type of service, and beamforming by using the optimal beam.
