A method of inhibiting hydrates in a fluid comprising water and gas comprising adding to the fluid an effective hydrate-inhibiting amount of a composition comprising one or more homo- or co-polymers of N-alkyl(alkyl)acrylamide synthesized by polymerizing one or more N-alkyl(alkyl)acrylamide monomers in a solvent comprising a glycol ether of formula CH3—(CH2)m—(O—CH2—CH2)n—OH where m is an integer of 0-1, and n is an integer ≥1.
