The method includes: determining a set backlight value of each backlight area according to a grayscale of an image to be displayed; determining an equivalent backlight luminance of each pixel point according to backlight source diffusion transmission parameter of the backlight module of the display device and the set backlight value of each backlight area; determining a compensation image according to the equivalent backlight luminance of each pixel point; and controlling the backlight module to turn on the backlight sources according to the set backlight value of each backlight area, and controlling the display panel to display the image according to the compensation image.
