The light emitting diode includes a substrate, a first semiconductor layer disposed on the substrate, a light emitting layer disposed on a first portion of the first semiconductor layer, a second semiconductor layer disposed on the light emitting layer, a first electrode disposed on a second portion of the first semiconductor layer, the first portion and the second portion not overlapping, a second electrode disposed on the second semiconductor layer. Thickness of the first electrode is greater than thickness of the second electrode. A backlight module including the light emitting diode is further provided.
