The electronic device includes a processor operably connected to a camera and configured to display a preview image containing an emoji for a user on the touch screen display based on the motion of the subject recognized by the camera, such that the motion of the subject is applied to the emoji, receive a first user input to perform a function associated with the emoji while the preview image is being displayed, display a user interface including the emoji on the touch screen display in response to the first user input, receive a second user input associated with a motion of the emoji included in the user interface, and apply a motion specified according to the second user input to the emoji in response to the second user input and then display the emoji on the touch screen display.
