Disclosed are devices, systems and methods for power management in an electronics unit of a sensor device, e.g., such as in a continuous analyte sensor system. In some example embodiments, there is provided a method that includes monitoring, by a controller of a sensor electronics module, counts associated with signals received from a sensor device for a first period of time. The method also includes comparing a number of received counts with one or more benchmarked count thresholds, and determining whether to initiate an operational mode of the sensor electronics module based on the comparison.
