A method performed by an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes receiving multiplexing related configuration information of a mobile termination (MT) of the IAB node and a distributed unit (DU) of the IAB node from an upper IAB node, the multiplexing including spatial division multiplexing (SDM), frequency division multiplexing (FDM), and time division multiplexing (TDM), performing fallback from the FDM or the SDM to the TDM, and in response to the fallback, based on the configuration information, transmitting and receiving data of the DU of the IAB node.
