A method for enhancing the effectiveness of post-emergent herbicides consists of the addition, to the post-emergent herbicidal composition, of an effective amount of a carboxylic acid diester of the formula: ROOC(CH2)nCOORnullnullnull(I) wherein R and Rnull are independently selected from a C1 to C4 alkyl group and n is from about 5 to about 9. The advantages of using a compound of formula (I) with the post-emergent herbicide include a faster visual phytotoxic response, better weed control and use of less post-emergent herbicide.
