Certain embodiments provide a user interface providing software tools and customization for a picture archiving and communication system. The user interface includes a pie-shaped menu including a plurality of tool segments arranged as pieces of the pie-shaped menu. The user interface also includes a pointer movable by a user to select one of the plurality of tool segments in the pie-shaped menu. The user interface further includes an image review area displayed underneath the pie-shaped menu. In certain embodiments, the user interface further includes a tool bar including one or more tools and functions associated with a tool segment in the pie-shaped menu, for example.
