The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device and a method for driving the same, in which a difference of data charge quantities is compensated in a liquid crystal display panel having a reduced number of data lines, for reducing power consumption.The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel including first sub-pixels for charging a data of a polarity opposite to a prior horizontal period, and second sub-pixels for charging a data of a polarity identical to a prior horizontal period; a data driver for driving a plurality of data lines of the liquid crystal display panel; and a timing controller for dividing a charging period of the data into a plurality of charging periods, generating at least one compensation data for compensating a data on at least one of the plurality of charging periods, and supplying the at least one compensation data to the data driver.
