The liquid crystal layer (30) contains liquid crystal molecules (31) that align themselves perpendicularly to surfaces of the substrates when no electric field is applied. The liquid crystal panel 2 satisfies 0.33≦S/(S+L)≦0.64, where L is the width of each of the combtooth electrodes (12, 13) and S is the electrode interval.
